A memory debug LED or no-POST condition has several causes. Verify the exact kit, board memory type and recommended DIMM positions before changing voltage or timings.
Return to a documented baseline
Turn off power and use the board manual to confirm DIMM placement. If an EXPO or XMP profile was enabled, return to default settings using the manufacturer’s instructions. Default JEDEC operation and advertised profile speed are separate questions.
Check the physical specification
Confirm DDR4 versus DDR5 and the module format. Match the full kit part number in the QVL; do not treat two separate kits as a tested four-DIMM set. Some systems take longer on first boot while memory training completes, so consult the manual before interrupting it.
When to seek support
If the exact configuration remains unstable at defaults, document the CPU, BIOS version, kit SKU and which slots were tested. Use those details when contacting the board or memory maker.
Change only one variable at a time
After checking DDR generation, use the board manual’s recommended one-module slot and leave memory at default settings. Record whether the board reaches POST. Then test the other module using the same documented slot if the manual permits. This sequence gives support staff clearer evidence than changing slots, BIOS settings and profiles at once.
- Do not force a DDR4 module into a DDR5 socket or the reverse.
- Do not combine separate kits and assume the QVL test still applies.
- Allow the training time specified by the board maker before deciding that the first boot failed.
Profile failure is a separate result
If default memory settings boot but EXPO or XMP fails, the kit has not necessarily failed. Compare the exact QVL row, CPU-generation filter, populated DIMM count and current BIOS. Save the default and profile results separately when contacting the manufacturer.
