Power down before touching hardware. Start with the exact CPU support list and minimum BIOS for your board; avoid repeatedly reseating parts without a plan.
Record the symptom before changing anything
Note whether fans start, whether a debug LED remains lit and whether the display stays blank. Disconnect power before opening the case. Follow your board manual for the meaning of its LEDs and for electrostatic precautions.
Verify support and firmware
Confirm the exact board revision and CPU SKU. Look up the minimum BIOS in the board’s CPU support list. If the installed BIOS predates that release, use the manufacturer’s exact update method; a normal in-BIOS updater may not be available when the new CPU cannot boot.
Escalate carefully
Check CPU power connectors and cooler installation according to the manuals. If socket pins may be damaged, stop and seek qualified help. Do not flash a firmware file for a similarly named but different board.
Separate power, POST and display symptoms
A system with no fans or status lights suggests a different starting point than one that powers on but holds a CPU debug LED. A machine that completes POST but shows no picture may need a display-output check, especially when the selected processor has no integrated graphics. Record exactly what happens before reseating the CPU or flashing firmware.
- Unplug power before checking CPU and board power connectors.
- Read the debug LED definition in the exact board manual.
- Confirm the display cable is connected to an output the build can use.
Use a known support path if available
If the older processor still boots, record the installed BIOS and use the board maker’s supported update procedure before another CPU swap. If neither processor boots or the socket may be damaged, stop repeated installation attempts and seek qualified service. A support-list BIOS value does not reveal the cause of this individual failure.
